FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know before you order.
1. What is the difference between Vinyl Wrap, Clear PPF and Color PPF 2.0?
Vinyl Wrap is primarily designed to change the vehicle’s color and appearance. Clear PPF is a transparent TPU film designed to protect the original paintwork. Color PPF 2.0 combines color change with the protective properties of PPF, offering hydrophobic performance and self-healing properties for minor surface scratches. The choice of film depends on the desired finish, level of protection and installation requirements.
2. What colors and finishes are available from TeckWrap?
TeckWrap offers more than 220 vinyl wrap colors and 37 Color PPF options. Available finishes include gloss, super gloss HD, satin and matte, alongside special-effect finishes. Individual product series differ in surface characteristics, adhesive behavior and installation requirements. Please refer to the current catalog for available colors and finishes.
3. What is the expected durability and warranty period of TeckWrap films?
Durability depends on the film type, environmental conditions, installation quality and maintenance. TeckWrap Vinyl Wrap has a stated exterior durability of up to 5 years and a 2-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects, subject to the conditions of the specific series. Color PPF 2.0 carries an 8-year manufacturer's warranty, while Clear PPF warranty periods range from 8 to 10 years, depending on the model. Expected durability and warranty coverage are two separate parameters. Always refer to the documentation for the specific product.
4. Where can professional installers order TeckWrap films, and what are the delivery options?
TeckWrap Europe supplies professional detailing studios and installers across Europe from its warehouse in Warsaw. Orders are dispatched within 24 hours, subject to product availability and fulfillment conditions. Selected films are available by the meter or in full rolls. For B2B pricing, product availability and cooperation terms, please contact the TeckWrap Europe sales team.
5. Which TeckWrap films are installed wet and which are installed dry?
Vinyl Wrap and Color PPF 2.0 are installed using a dry application method, while Clear PPF requires wet installation with a suitable slip solution. For Clear PPF, the solution allows the installer to position the film and squeegee the application fluid from underneath the material. Regardless of the application method, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned, decontaminated and degreased. Always follow the preparation and application procedures specified for the relevant product series.
6. How should Super Gloss HD films be prepared before installation, and when should the PET protective layer be removed?
Super Gloss HD films feature an outer PET protective layer that helps prevent surface scratches and damage during handling and transportation. The PET layer must be removed before installation begins. Failure to remove it may compromise adhesion and the final finish. Super Gloss HD films also feature a high-tack adhesive, which requires careful positioning and minimal repeated lifting and reapplication to avoid visible adhesive lines.
7. What pre-heating temperature should be used before stretching TeckWrap vinyl, and what is the maximum recommended stretch?
According to the TeckWrap Installation Vinyl Guide, Super Gloss HD and Matte/Satin films should be pre-heated to 40–50°C (104–122°F) before stretching. Pre-heating improves film pliability and reduces the risk of tearing and creasing. The guide specifies a maximum recommended stretch of 12% for these vinyl films. Exceeding this limit may compromise film integrity and installation quality. Temperature should be monitored with a suitable measuring device, and stretching should be kept to the minimum necessary.
8. What post-heating temperatures should be used for Super Gloss HD and Matte/Satin films?
Post-heating is the controlled application of heat after installation to help set the film and adhesive bond and reduce the risk of edge lifting and film shrinkage.
According to the TeckWrap Installation Guide, the recommended post-heating temperatures are:
- All Gloss HD: 110–115°C (230–239°F).
- Matte/Satin: 100–105°C (212–221°F).
- Chrome: 60–70°C (140–158°F).
Apply heat evenly and allow sufficient time to complete the process. These temperature ranges apply to the specified series in the installation guide. Always check the current technical documentation for the exact product being installed.
9. How can installers prevent adhesive marks, micro-scratches and positioning issues?
TeckWrap films with high-tack adhesives require precise positioning. Repeatedly lifting and reapplying the film may leave visible adhesive lines.
A tack reducer can be used on flat surfaces, in accordance with the recommendations for the relevant series, to reduce initial tack and make positioning easier. Do not apply tack reducer to edges or recessed areas.
To minimize micro-scratches, ensure the squeegee is properly lubricated so that it glides smoothly over the film surface. Squeegee evenly from the center outward, removing air bubbles and ensuring proper contact between the adhesive and the substrate.
10. How should TeckWrap films be maintained after installation, and can a ceramic coating be applied?
Follow the recommended adhesive curing period and first-wash instructions for the specific product. For Vinyl Wrap, the TeckWrap Installation Guide recommends avoiding washing and waxing for at least 3 days after installation.
For routine maintenance, use mild cleaning products and soft, clean accessories. Avoid aggressive chemicals and directing high-pressure water jets under the film edges.
The installation guide also recommends applying a compatible ceramic coating to help improve surface protection, appearance and film longevity. Before application, verify compatibility with the specific film and finish, particularly for matte and satin surfaces.
